This introduction to sewing serves a double purpose as it highlights the final letter of the alphabet.
What You Need:
Cardstock, paper, colored pencils or markers, scissors, hole punch, yarn, blunt craft needle
To Prepare:
Cut a z shape from cardstock and punch holes in it, as shown.
Cut a piece of yarn twice the length of the sewing pattern and thread it though a craft needle.
Activity:
Write a large z on paper. Demonstrate, then have your child trace the letter and say its sound several times. Invite her to write lots of z’s, using different colored pencils or markers.
Set out the prepared cardstock z. Ask her to trace its shape with her fingers and say its sound.
Tie the yarn end to the upper left top of the z. Guide her to stitch the shape in the same pattern as it is written. Loop over the end of the letter and tie to secure.
